Established in 1971, the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFKMC) stands as Liberia’s premier institution for tertiary medical care and education, serving not only the nation but also the broader West African region. Named in honor of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, JFKMC has been at the forefront of healthcare delivery and the training of Liberia’s health workforce for over four decades.
The Medical Center is a comprehensive healthcare facility, equipped with advanced diagnostic equipment and staffed by over forty specialist doctors. Since 1978, the government of Liberia has proudly managed and operated the Center, ensuring its role as a cornerstone of the nation’s healthcare system.
JFKMC encompasses several key institutions:
Memorial Hospital: The flagship hospital, originally built with a 500-bed capacity, provides a wide range of medical services.
Tubman National Institute of Medical Arts (TNIMA): Established to offer medical education for paramedical students, contributing significantly to the development of the healthcare workforce in Liberia.
Catherine Mills Rehabilitation Center (Edward Grant Mental Health Hospital): Dedicated to mental health services, this center has a capacity of 150 beds, focusing on the rehabilitation and care of patients with mental health conditions.
Liberian Japanese Friendship Maternity Hospital: This hospital specializes in maternal and child health services, with a capacity of 250 beds.
