(Paynesville, October 11, 2022) the Management of the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Medical Center through the Edward S. Grant Mental Health Hospital on Monday October 10, 22 held an elaborate program commemorating the celebration of World Mental Health Day at its Duport Road facility in Paynesville.The Federation of World Mental Health has set aside October 10th of each year to be celebrated globally as WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY in recognition of people living with Mental Health conditions. This event is celebrated Globally and as usual it is a very significant event to the JFK/ E.S Grant Mental Health Hospital as the only psychiatry referral and teaching Hospital in Liberia. The theme for this year’s celebration of World Mental Health Day is “MAKING MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING FOR ALL A GLOBAL PRIORITY. This year’s celebration was geared towards raising funds for the re-establishment of the Technical Vocational Skills Training as a component of the rehabilitation program at the hospital. Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Executive Officer and General Administrator of the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Medical Center Dr. Jerry Fahnloe Brown stressed the need to prioritize the issue of mental health by attaching importance and value to addressing the problem of mental health, especially in Liberia. He noted that if the issue of mental health is not given a priority the Country will be doomed and bound for destruction, because we as a people will not be heading in the right direction. He said the issue of mental health does not only affect a certain group of people but everyone, including those who are in their various offices and other areas within the society. He also said that mental health is all about the way in which we think and or react to situations that we’re confronted with on a daily basis. Dr. Brown said in order to get the help you need as someone living with mental health issues, you must firstly accept that you have a mental health condition. Dr. Brown also asserted that the Management of the JFK Medical Center under his leadership is prioritizing Mental Health evident by the level of transformation and development that is currently taking place at the E.S Grant Mental Health Hospital as compare to what it was when his leadership took over. The JFK CEO Dr. Jerry Fahnloe Brown and his deputies Mrs. Dama Yekeson Koffa Deputy CEO for Administration and Dr. Sia Wata Camanor Chief Medical Officer officially dedicated a newly constructed Emergency Room to cater to emergency cases at all times at the hospital. A fund raiser was also done at the ceremony through the exhibition of hand made items that were created by patients of the hospital, as part of preparation for the full launch into the Vocational Skills training program. According to the Administrator of the E. S Grant Mental Health Hospital Mrs. Davidetta Alfreda Betty Parker-Sirleaf funds generated from the rally will go towards purchasing more materials that are used by patients to create those items as part of supporting their efforts and enhancing their capabilities.
