Monrovia – The U.S. Ambassador to Liberia, Mark Toner made a personal and heartfelt connection during his visit to the JFK Medical Center on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Touched by the sight of newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Ambassador Toner shared a personal story about his own daughter, who had once been admitted to a similar ward. He praised the NICU team at JFK for their excellent work and pledged his continued support for the hospital, vowing to collaborate with the administration throughout his time in Liberia.
During his visit, Ambassador Toner met with Dr. Linda Birch, CEO of JFK Medical Center, who highlighted the hospital’s growing patient load and the need for expansion to accommodate the increasing demand. Dr. Birch also outlined ongoing challenges, such as high oxygen costs and the limited functionality of some critical medical equipment.
Dr. J. Soka Moses of Prevail Liberia provided further updates, assuring the ambassador that the upgraded Microbiology Lab would soon be operational, enhancing the hospital’s capacity for critical research and diagnostics.
The ambassador’s visit and personal reflections underscore his commitment to supporting JFK’s mission to provide quality healthcare to Liberians.
